The most ancient civilisations already used fermentation processes to prepare foodstuffs such as bread or beer

Scientific advances in Biology and Chemistry facilitated the development of Biochemistry with applications in food, pharmaceutical, environmental, etc. Important energy savings and new techniques for process control lead to Biotechnology and Bioengineering.

After the colloquium, there will be a visit to the IQS Biotechnology laboratories.
