Mare Nostrum is the generic name used by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) to refer to the different updates of its most emblematic and powerful supercomputer in Spain. So far, four versions have been installed.

The first one dates from 2004 and its computing power was 42.35 Teraflops (42.35 trillion operations per second) and the last one is from 2017 (with a peak performance of 13.9 Petaflops… or 1.39 10E16 operations per second).

Mare Nostrum is used in practically all scientific disciplines – from astrophysics and materials physics to biomedicine – as well as in engineering and industry. Projects include research on climate change, gravitational waves, an AIDS vaccine, new radiation therapies for cancer and simulations of fusion energy production, among others.

Mare Nostrum is connected to European research centres and universities through the RedIris and Geant networks.

The seats are full!
