Successful attendance at the round table Sustainability: The new engine of the paint industry.

The second edition of Paint & Coatings came to an end on Wednesday 16th November with a successful attendance and establishment itself as the meeting point for professionals in the paints, coatings and related industries.

One of the most eagerly awaited sessions was the round table discussion held by the AIQS Alumni Paints Professional Group, entitled “Sustainability: The new engine of the paint industry”. This round table, open to all actors in the sector, was a space for information and debate on how sustainability is driving the paint industry.

We are in an era where the growing concern and demand for an environmentally sustainable environment is taking on an important role. The chemical industry and in particular the paints sector must not only adapt to this change but also promote it; providing innovative formulations and presenting solutions to our customers so that they can thrive in a changing world.

The session discussed how chemistry is an indispensable part of the road to a better future, where environmental care and health and sustainability are indispensable factors in new developments and processes. It was also discussed how the legislative framework is evolving in the European Union to ensure this change, with the new proposal for the Ecodesign Regulation for sustainable products. How large chemical companies such as BASF and Pinturas Hempel see and implement this reality, applying it also to commercial products, and the tools proposed by BYK Chemie to formulate additives that take into account the new challenges of sustainability.

These were the 4 presentations that preceded the Round Table “Sustainability: The new engine of the paint industry”:

Introduction and GPP presentation, by Raül Cabré (technical director at Euroquímica Paints).

Futureproof. Sustainability in the world of coatings, by Santiago Arias (Head of Product Sustainability at Pinturas Hempel, S.A.U.)

We drive sustainable solutions, by Daniela Brunsó-Welker (Product Stewardship Manager at BASF Española S.L.)

BYK Additives: solution to the challenges in sustainable paint formulation, by Pilar Casas (Area Manager Paint Additives Iberia at BYK Chemie GmbH)

Eco-Design Regulation for sustainable products, by Nicoletta Carboni (Head of Regulation and Technical Affairs at Asefapi)
